About Tabernaemontana divaricata (L.) R.Br. ex Roem. & Schult.
This species, scientifically named Tabernaemontana divaricata (L.) R.Br. ex Roem. & Schult., generally reaches a height of 1.5–1.8 metres (5–6 ft), and has dichotomous branching. Its large, shiny leaves are deep green, measuring around 15 cm (6 in) long and 5 cm (2 in) wide. Waxy blossoms grow in small clusters at the tips of stems. Single flowers of this plant have the characteristic pinwheel shape also seen in other Apocynaceae genera including Vinca and Nerium. Both single-flowered and double-flowered forms are in cultivation, and all cultivated forms bear white flowers. The main blooming period occurs in spring, but sporadic flowers can appear throughout the year. The flowers produce a pleasant fragrance. More than 66 different alkaloids have been identified in this shrub. It naturally grows in montane brushwoods and sparse forests.
