About Syzygium crebrinerve (C.T.White) L.A.S.Johnson
Syzygium crebrinerve (C.T.White) L.A.S.Johnson is a medium to tall tree, which occasionally grows to 45 metres in height with a trunk up to one metre in diameter. The tree’s crown looks dark and full, while new growth is bright red. Its bark is grey or fawn coloured, with many depressions that form when scales of bark shed. Fresh living bark is purplish brown, and large mature individuals develop significant buttressing at the base. For cultivation, seed germination of this species is slow, erratic and unreliable. Its fruit is susceptible to insect attack, so soaking the seeds is recommended to drown insect larvae. Germination rates for treated seeds range from 27% to 100%.
