About Syssphinx montana Packard, 1905

Syssphinx montana (Packard, 1905) is a moth species belonging to the family Saturniidae. This species occurs in Mexico, and is rarely found in southeastern Arizona in the United States. Its wingspan measures between 62 and 82 millimetres, which equals 2.4 to 3.2 inches. Male moths of this species are smaller than females. Adult moths are active on the wing from mid-July to early August. Adult Syssphinx montana do not feed. The larvae of this species feed on Haematoxylon brasalita, Cassia emarginata, Acacia farnesiana, Gleditsia triacanthos, and Robinia pseudoacacia.
