About Synthyris missurica subsp. missurica

Veronica missurica (synonym: Synthyris missurica; scientific name as classified here: Synthyris missurica subsp. missurica) is a flowering plant species in the family Plantaginaceae. It is commonly known by three common names: tailed kittentails, mountain kittentails, and Columbia kittentails. This plant is native to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. In its native range, it grows in moist spots in forests, as well as other types of mountain and foothill habitats. It is often one of the first wildflowers to bloom in its mountain habitat, and it sometimes emerges before snow has completely melted. It is a rhizomatous perennial herb that produces a rosette of basal leaves; these leaves have toothed, rounded blades that grow on petioles. Its inflorescence is a raceme made up of bright violet-blue flowers. Each flower is roughly half a centimeter long, and has two protruding stamens.
