About Syntherata janetta White, 1843

Scientific name: Syntherata janetta White, 1843. This moth has a wingspan of approximately 120–140 mm (4.7–5.5 in), and its body and wing color is variable, ranging from yellowish to brown or purplish-grey. Its wings bear zigzag-shaped markings, and may sometimes also have dark splotches, plus a small circular spot on each wing. The immature larval stage is a large, greenish, spiny caterpillar that feeds on a variety of host plants: Euodia elleryana, Geijera salicifolia, Glochidion ferdinandi, Petalostigma quadriloculare, Aegiceras, Ceriops, Timonius rumphii, and Podocarpus spinulosus. Syntherata janetta inhabits heavily forested areas including rainforest. Its known range includes New Guinea and coastal eastern Australia, extending south as far as Newcastle.
