Synlestes tropicus, scientifically described by Tillyard in 1917, is a species of Australian damselfly belonging to the family Synlestidae. Its common name is the tropical needle. This species is endemic to north-eastern Queensland, and it lives in streams located within rainforests. Synlestes tropicus is a large to very large damselfly, with a metallic green-black body marked by pale patches. It perches holding its wings either partially or fully extended out from its body.
