The darkflank pipefish, scientifically named Syngnathus taenionotus Canestrini, 1871, is a species of pipefish that lives in the north-western Adriatic. This species can be found in both marine and brackish habitats. It is a demersal fish, and males of this species are ovoviviparous. Darkflank pipefish can grow to a maximum length of 19 centimetres, which equals 7.5 inches. They are most commonly found among detritus or vegetation on shallow muddy bottoms.
