Synanthedon culiciformis, commonly called the large red-belted clearwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Sesiidae. This species is distributed across the Palearctic and Nearctic realms. It has a wingspan measuring 23 to 27 millimetres (0.91–1.06 in), while its forewings reach a length of 12 to 14 mm (0.47–0.55 in). Adult moths fly from April to August, with the flight period varying by location. The larvae of Synanthedon culiciformis feed on a range of deciduous trees, with a preference for birch, and also feed on alder.
