About Synanthedon bibionipennis (Boisduval, 1869)

Synanthedon bibionipennis, commonly known as the strawberry crown moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Sesiidae. This species is native to western North America, where it occurs from Montana south to Texas, westward to the Pacific coast, and ranging from British Columbia in the north to California in the south. It has been introduced to Hawaii. The wingspan of adult strawberry crown moths is around 20 millimeters. Adults are active in flight between the months of April and August. The species produces one new generation per year. The larvae of Synanthedon bibionipennis feed on a variety of species from the rose plant family, including members of the genera Fragaria, Rosa, Rubus, and Potentilla.
