Symplocos anomala Brand can grow as a shrub or a tree reaching up to 30 metres (100 ft) in height, with a trunk that can measure up to 50 centimetres (20 in) in diameter. The bark of this plant is grey or brown, its flowers have a white corolla, and the ripe fruit ranges in color from purple to black. Symplocos anomala is native to Japan, China, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand, Borneo, and Sumatra. It grows mainly in montane forests, at altitudes between 900 metres (3,000 ft) and 2,000 metres (6,600 ft).
