About Sympis rufibasis Guenée, 1852
Sympis rufibasis Guenée, 1852 has a wingspan of 48 to 50 mm. Males have an orange-red head and thorax, and a reddish brown abdomen. Their forewings have an orange-red basal area bounded by an oblique blue line. The outer area of the forewings is reddish brown, with a large scarlet lunule beyond the cell, and a white speck on the costa above this lunule. An indistinct, irregularly dentate sub-marginal line, plus a series of marginal specks, are present on the forewings. Hindwings are fuscous, with an incomplete medial white band and a waved marginal line. The ventral side is almost entirely suffused with grey, and has a crenulate postmedial line. Females lack the scarlet lunule on the forewings. Larvae are darkish olive green brown, with a distinct pale yellow stripe running along each side, extending from the head to the anal prolegs. These larvae feed on species of the genera Dimocarpus, Litchi, and Nephelium.
