About Symphyotrichum elliottii (Torr. & A.Gray) G.L.Nesom
Symphyotrichum elliottii, previously classified as Aster elliottii, is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It is native to the Atlantic coastal plain of the southeastern United States, where it grows in wetland areas. Commonly called Elliott's aster, it is a perennial herbaceous plant that can reach heights between 6 and 20 decimeters (2 to 6 and a half feet). Its flowers have pink, or sometimes lavender, ray florets. The plant's disk florets start pale yellow, then turn pink, and finally turn brown. As of July 2021, NatureServe has classified S. elliottii as globally Apparently Secure (G4), but notes it is of conservation concern in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
