About Symphoricarpos orbiculatus Moench

Symphoricarpos orbiculatus Moench is an erect, rhizomatous shrub. It typically reaches a height of 3 to 4 feet (90 to 120 cm), and can grow up to 6 feet (180 cm) tall. Its leaves are usually oval-shaped, arranged oppositely along branches, and are either sessile or subsessile. The flowers are greenish-white, and grow in verticils in the leaf axils. This species is monoecious, meaning a single individual plant produces both male and female flowers. Its fruit is a purple-red drupe that contains two stones, and these drupes remain on the plant through the winter. Symphoricarpos orbiculatus is native to eastern and central United States, central Canada (Ontario), and northeastern Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo León).
