About Sylvirana spinulosa (Smith, 1923)

Sylvirana spinulosa (Smith, 1923), which is also referenced as Hylarana spinulosa, and commonly called the fine-spined frog and spiny frog, is a species of true frog belonging to the family Ranidae. This species is endemic to Hainan, located in southern China. It inhabits tropical forests at elevations ranging from 80 to 840 meters (260 to 2,760 feet) above sea level. Its breeding activity occurs in pools and slow-flowing streams. It is a medium-sized frog species: adult males reach a snout–vent length of 40 mm (1.6 inches), while adult females grow to 52 mm (2.0 inches). The tadpoles of this species reach a maximum length of 37 mm (1.5 inches).
