About Sylvirana malayana Sheridan & Stuart, 2018

Sylvirana malayana (originally described as Hylarana malayana) is a species of frog in the family Ranidae, commonly known as the Malaya stream frog, Malay woodfrog, or Malayan dark-side frog. It is endemic to Myanmar and India. Scientists classify this frog as a sister taxon to Sylvirana nigrovittata. Adult males of this species measure 42.2–48.8 mm in snout-vent length, while adult females measure 47.2–56.8 mm. The frog is medium-brown with small dark spots, has white lips, a wide dark stripe running down each side of its body from the nose to the groin, and a white belly. It has vomerine teeth in its jaw and adhesive disks on its toes for climbing. Adult males have more robust front legs than adult females. The researchers who first published the formal description of this species named it malayana because it is the only species among its close relatives that occurs in Peninsular Malaysia.
