The long-billed crombec, Sylvietta rufescens (Vieillot, 1817), is a small, nearly tailless bird. It measures 12 cm in length and weighs approximately 16 g. Its upperparts are brownish grey-brown, with a pale grey supercilium. A dark eye stripe separates this supercilium from the bird's whitish throat. Its whitish breast gradually darkens into a buff-colored belly. The long, slightly curved bill is blackish. Males and females have similar appearances, and juveniles resemble adult long-billed crombecs. Its call is a variable series of trilled notes, including the pattern trreee-rriiit trreee-rriiit and a harsh pttt.
