About Sylvia deserti (Loche, 1858)

This small bird, scientific name Sylvia deserti (Loche, 1858), is marginally the smallest species in its genus. It measures 11–12 cm in length and weighs 7–10 g. The sexes are almost identical in coloration: individuals are pale sandy yellow-brown on their upperparts and whitish on their underparts. Their bill and legs are yellowish, and they have a yellow iris. This species differs from the Asian desert warbler by its more yellowish overall body color. This warbler breeds in the deserts of north-western Africa, located south of the Atlas Mountains. Its breeding range extends from southern Morocco east to western Libya, and south to Mali and Niger. It spends the winter in the same general area, and only makes short-distance movements, with no long migration.
