About Sufetula hemiophthalma (Meyrick, 1884)

Sufetula hemiophthalma is a species of moth belonging to the family Crambidae. It was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1884. This moth is found on the Cook Islands, French Polynesia, and Fiji; in Australia, it has been recorded from the states of New South Wales and Queensland. The wingspan of Sufetula hemiophthalma measures around 12 mm. Its forewings are an ochreous white base color, mixed with pale ochreous, and are irregularly irrorated, or speckled, with fuscous and grey. The forewing costa is suffused with dark fuscous. A pale line runs from one-third of the costa to one-third of the inner margin, which is suffusedly bordered on the posterior side by dark fuscous. A round blackish discal spot is present on the forewings. At positions one-half, five-eighths, and three-fourths along the costa, there are three semicircular dark-centered pale spots. A second pale line runs from four-fifths of the costa to four-fifths of the inner margin, and this line is suffusedly margined with dark fuscous. A row of small, unclear blackish spots runs along the hind margin of the forewings. The hindwings are white, speckled with grey, and feature a round black discal spot that is surrounded by a white patch. At two-thirds of the hindwing length, there is a white line running parallel to the hind margin, which is partially margined with dark fuscous. A row of small unclear dark fuscous spots runs along the hind margin of the hindwings, with one larger spot located in the wing's indentation. The larvae of Sufetula hemiophthalma feed on Cocos nucifera.
