About Stylidium scandens R.Br.

Stylidium scandens, commonly called the climbing triggerplant, is a dicotyledonous plant in the genus Stylidium of the family Stylidiaceae. This species is endemic to Australia, and occurs primarily in the southwestern region of Western Australia. Along with Stylidium nymphaeum, S. scandens has a unique trait among all triggerplants: its five centimetre (two inch) long leaves end in a curved backward barb that can grip other vegetation, allowing the plant to scramble or climb to a height of 30–60 cm over other plants. This climbing growth habit is the source of its common name. The flowers of S. scandens are bright pink and measure around 15 mm across.
