About Strymon alea (Godman & Salvin, 1887)

Strymon alea, commonly known as the Alea hairstreak or Lacey's scrub-hairstreak, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This species was first described by Frederick DuCane Godman and Osbert Salvin in 1887. Its range extends from northwestern Costa Rica, through Mexico, to central and southern Texas. Its natural habitat is subtropical thorn scrub. The wingspan of adult Strymon alea ranges from 19 to 29 mm. Adult individuals feed on flower nectar, while larvae feed on the buds and flowers of Bernardia myricaefolia.
