About Strongylura notata (Poey, 1860)

This species has the scientific name Strongylura notata (Poey, 1860). Fully grown adult individuals of this species can reach a total length of 61 centimetres, which is equal to 24 inches. The species primarily lives in marine and brackish waters, and it may also enter freshwater habitats. Two subspecies are recognized. The nominate subspecies, S. n. notata, occurs in the Western Central Atlantic in areas around Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, and Honduras, and it has also been reported from Bermuda. The other subspecies, S. n. forsythia, has been reported from the Bahamas, southern Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico extending west to Mobile Bay, Alabama.
