About Streptanthus lasiophyllus (Hook. & Arn.) Hoover

Streptanthus lasiophyllus, which has many synonyms including Guillenia lasiophylla, is a species of mustard plant. Its common names are California mustard and slenderpod jewelflower. This species is native to western North America, ranging from British Columbia to northern Mexico. It grows in a wide variety of habitat types, including desert flats, gravelly areas, limestone rocks, talus slopes, sandy banks, and grassy fields. It is an erect annual herb with a thin stem. Long lobed, toothed leaves grow around the base of the plant, while smaller leaves line the stem. An inflorescence of flowers sits at the top of the plant. Each flower has widely spaced, oval-shaped white or yellowish petals that measure half a centimeter long. The fruit is a flat, narrow silique that can reach up to 7 centimeters long and hangs downward from the stem. Its flowering bloom period runs from March to June.
