About Streptanthus heterophyllus Nutt.
This description is for Streptanthus heterophyllus Nutt. The species has a smooth, erect stem that can be either thin or quite stout. Long, pointed leaves grow at intervals along the stem, and flowers also grow at similar intervals toward the upper part of the stem. The tip of the stem holds an inflorescence that bears between one and several flowers. Each flower is showy: it has a hollow, urn-shaped body that ranges in color from magenta to purple, and its mouth is surrounded by contrasting white petals that curl outward. The fruit produced by this plant is a silique several centimeters long, and it contains winged seeds.
