About Strephonota tephraeus (Geyer, 1837)
Strephonota tephraeus is a butterfly species that belongs to the Lycaenidae family. Its distribution ranges from Mexico to Venezuela, the Amazon basin, the Guianas, and Peru. Rare stray individuals of this species can be found as far north as the lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas. This species inhabits lowland tropical forests, especially areas alongside rivers. The wingspan of adult Strephonota tephraeus measures between 22 and 29 mm. In Mexico, adults are active from May to December, producing multiple generations each year. In southern Texas, adult sightings of this species have only been recorded in November. It is presumed that adult Strephonota tephraeus feed on flower nectar.
