About Stimulopalpus japonicus Enderlein, 1906

The Japanese barklouse, scientifically named Stimulopalpus japonicus, is a species of tropical barklouse belonging to the family Amphientomidae. It was formally described by German biologist Günther Enderlein in 1906. No male individuals of this species have been documented, which leads to the suggestion that female Japanese barklice may reproduce through thelytoky. This species is native to Japan, and also occurs in other parts of East Asia as well as South Asia. It was accidentally introduced to the United States in the 1940s, and has also been introduced to Italy. Japanese barklice are often found congregating on rocks and concrete surfaces.
