About Stichopus horrens Selenka, 1867

Stichopus horrens Selenka, 1867 is a variable-colored sea cucumber native to the Indo-Pacific region, with body color ranging from grey to green or black. It is often variegated with dark patches. This is a medium-sized species that can grow up to 30 cm long. It has a smooth tegument, but bears large, irregular papillae. Its large tubercles and irregular body shape give it an "irregular, soft and almost repulsive" appearance. Its spicules are in the form of tables and large "C" bodies, characteristic of this species. Stichopus horrens can be found on reefs, and beneath rocks on flat reef areas.
