About Stichopus chloronotus Brandt, 1835
Stichopus chloronotus is a fairly large sea cucumber species that grows to about 25 cm (10 in). It has a firm but pliable body with a squarish cross section. Its skin is smooth, but has numerous conical fleshy papillae arranged in longitudinal rows; these papillae are larger along the lower lateral angles. The whole animal is a deep blackish-green colour, and the tips of its papillae are yellow or red. This species is native to the Indo-Pacific region. Its range extends from the Red Sea and the East Coast of Africa, through Madagascar, the Seychelles, the Comores and Réunion, to Australia, Indonesia, China, Japan, Guam, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. It inhabits reefs, and can also be found on rubble on outer reef flats, at depths down to about 12 m (39 ft).
