Sthenopis purpurascens, commonly known as the four-spotted ghost moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Hepialidae. It was first described by Packard in 1863. This species occurs in Canada and the United States, with a range extending from Labrador and New York north and west to British Columbia and the Northwest Territories, and south into mountainous areas as far as Arizona. The wingspan of adults ranges from 66 to 100 mm. There are two distinct color forms: a purple-grey form and a yellow-brown form. The hindwings are purple brown or salmon pink, and are typically unmarked.
