About Sternbergia clusiana (Ker Gawl.) Ker Gawl. ex Spreng.

Sternbergia clusiana (Ker Gawl.) Ker Gawl. ex Spreng. is native to the East Aegean Islands, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon-Syria, the Palestine region and Turkey. It grows in dry stony areas, including open fields. Its greenish-yellow flowers bloom in late autumn, which falls between October and November in the species' natural habitats. These flowers are the largest found in the entire Sternbergia genus. Each flower has tepals that reach up to 7 cm (2.8 in) in length, attached to a slightly shorter floral tube. The plant's grey-green leaves, which measure 8–16 mm wide, emerge after flowering, during winter or early spring. In cultivation, Sternbergia clusiana is not frost hardy. In regions that experience regular frosts, it is recommended to grow the plant with protection inside a cold greenhouse or under a cold frame. It can be propagated through bulb division.
