About Stenomax aeneus (Scopoli, 1763)

Stenomax aeneus (Scopoli, 1763) is a species of beetle that can reach a body length of 12–16 millimetres, or 0.47–0.63 inches. Individuals of this species have a black-brown, elongated body and very long legs. The top of the central pair of legs is covered with hairs. At the end of the abdomen, the elytra form two small spurs. This quite common species is found in south-eastern and Central Europe, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland. These beetles inhabit branches infested with fungi and the area under the bark of deciduous trees.
