About Stenodema holsata (Fabricius, 1787)

Stenodema holsata (Fabricius, 1787) reaches a body length of 6–7 millimetres (0.24–0.28 in). Individuals of this species have an elongated body and a coarsely pitted pronotum. A small longitudinal furrow is present on the head, and the first antennal segment bears short hairs. Before wintering, the basic body color is yellow-brown for females and dark brown for males, with brown longitudinal markings. In spring, both sexes change color to green, though males still remain darker than females. This species is widespread across most of Europe, and its range extends through Siberia, Asia Minor, Central Asia, and China. It occurs throughout the United Kingdom, with the exception of South East England. Stenodema holsata overwinters in the adult life stage. Mating takes place in spring, and larvae can be found from May to July. The new generation of adult individuals emerges starting in July. Adult Stenodema holsata feed on Purple Moor-grass (Molinia caerulea).
