About Stenocereus standleyi (J.G.Ortega) Buxb.
Stenocereus standleyi (J.G.Ortega) Buxb. typically grows in a spreading or slightly tree-like form, with numerous branching shoots and a mature height of 2 to 4 meters. It does not develop a distinct trunk. Its light green shoots can grow up to 8 centimeters in diameter, and usually have four broad, notched ribs. The species has four to six central spines that are reddish when young, turn gray as they age, and measure 2 to 2.5 centimeters long. It also has 10 to 16 radial spines, each 10 to 15 millimeters long, which also turn gray as they age. This cactus produces narrow, bell-shaped white flowers that bloom at night and are 6 to 8 centimeters long. Its fruits are egg-shaped, reddish, and reach 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter, with red or orange pulp and black seeds. The fruits are covered in curved areoles. Stenocereus standleyi is commonly found in the Mexican states of Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Sinaloa.
