About Stenocercus modestus (Tschudi, 1845)
The modest whorltail iguana, scientifically known as Stenocercus modestus, is a species of lizard belonging to the family Tropiduridae. This species is endemic to west-central Peru. It was first formally described by Johann Jakob von Tschudi in 1845. This lizard inhabits the coastal desert, and its diet is made up entirely of arthropods. The species currently has a population that is both highly fragmented and decreasing, so it has been classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
