About Stegophora ulmea (Fr.) Syd. & P.Syd.

Stegophora ulmea, the fungus that causes a common foliar disease of elms, is known by several common disease names: black spot of elm, twig blight, and elm leaf scab. The disease is characterized by the development of yellow spots on elm leaves that later turn black. The causal pathogen is an ascomycete fungus native to North America. Stegophora ulmea is the teleomorph name of this fungus. It has two anamorph names: Gloeosporium ulmicolom is used for its macroconidia stage, and Cylindrosporella ulmea is used for its microconidia stage. This pathogen was formerly classified under the name Gnomonia ulmea.
