Stegastes punctatus, commonly called the blunt snout gregory, is a species of damselfish belonging to the family Pomacentridae. This fish is native to the Indo-Pacific region, where it occurs at depths reaching up to 5 meters (16 feet). Its native geographic range stretches from the East African coast and the Red Sea east to the Line Islands, Society Islands, Ryukyu Islands, and Bonin Islands, and also includes New Caledonia, Tonga, and Micronesia. It is a highly territorial fish that chases other fish away from its garden of filamentous algae.
