About Stegasta capitella (Fabricius, 1794)
Stegasta capitella, commonly called the teaweed moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Gelechiidae. It was first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1794. This species is found in the West Indies and the southeastern United States, where it has been specifically recorded from the states of Florida, Georgia, and Texas. The forewings of Stegasta capitella reach an approximate length of 4 mm. In Florida, adult moths are active from February to August, and also in October and December. The larvae of this species feed on peanut plants and Sida spinosa.
