About Steccherinum ochraceum (Pers. ex J.F.Gmel.) Gray

Steccherinum ochraceum, commonly called the ochre spreading tooth, is a hydnoid fungus belonging to the Steccherinaceae family. It was first formally described as Hydnum ochraceum by Johann Friedrich Gmelin in 1792. Samuel Frederick Gray later reclassified it into the genus Steccherinum in 1821. This species acts as a plant pathogen that infects sweetgum trees. It has been found across all of North America, and also occurs in Nepal.
