About Staphida everetti Sharpe, 1887

The chestnut-crested yuhina, with the scientific name Staphida everetti Sharpe, 1887, is a bird species belonging to the white-eye family Zosteropidae. This species is placed in the genus Staphida alongside the Indochinese yuhina and the striated yuhina from mainland Asia. At one point, all three of these species were classified as a single species. Its scientific name was chosen to honor Alfred Hart Everett, a British colonial administrator and zoological collector. This species is endemic to the island of Borneo, and can be found in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Its natural habitats are broadleaf evergreen submontane and montane forests, forest edges, and secondary growth, at elevations ranging from 100 m to 2,800 m (330 ft to 9,190 ft). It is a common species within its range, and is often one of the most abundant species there.
