About Spiranthes ovalis Lindl.
Spiranthes ovalis Lindl., commonly known as the October lady's tresses, is a species of orchid native to eastern North America. It has a wide distributional range, found from Texas to Florida, and extending north to the Great Lakes. However, it is uncommon across most of its range, leading to a patchy known distribution. Its natural habitat is wet to mesic forests and woodlands. It produces delicate white flowers in the fall. It can be distinguished from other Spiranthes species in eastern North America by its small, tightly spiraled flowers and the presence of basal leaves when it is in flower.
