Adults of Spilostethus pandurus reach a body length of 13–15 millimetres (0.51–0.59 in). The body is colored red and black, with a white spot located at the center of the membrane. Two broad, wavy black longitudinal stripes extend from the front edge to the rear edge of the pronotum. The scutellum is black, and sometimes bears a small red spot at its tip. Nymphs of this species are bright red with black markings. These bugs possess two dorsolateral prothoracic glands that can secrete substances repellent to predators. This species occurs in the Euro-mediterranean-Turaniaan Region, and has a more southern distribution than Spilostethus saxatilis. It has been recorded in Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Lebanon, the Afrotropical realm, and southern Asia as far east as India and China.
