About Spilosoma congrua Walker, 1855

Spilosoma congrua, commonly called the agreeable tiger moth, is also known by the alternative name New Hope tiger moth (Spilosoma spesnova). It is one of three common species of white tiger moth found in the United States. This species was first described by Francis Walker in 1855. Distinguishing features that separate it from its close relative the Virginia tiger moth include prominent black eyes, a white abdomen, and an orange "bib" marking. Like the Virginia tiger moth, the agreeable tiger moth holds its wings in a tent-like position when at rest. It has been recorded in the United States, Canada, and its presence in India is unconfirmed.
