About Spilonota laricana (Heinemann, 1863)

Spilonota laricana is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae. Its distribution covers most of Europe, excluding the Iberian Peninsula and the Balkan Peninsula, and it is also found in China, Japan, Russia, and the Nearctic realm. This moth has an approximate wingspan of 15 mm. It was previously classified as a forma of Spilonota ocellana. Adult Spilonota laricana are active in flight from June through August. The larvae primarily feed on tree species from the genus Larix, but they have also been documented feeding on other types of coniferous trees. Young larvae mine the needles of their host plant. After they complete overwintering, they feed on the young buds of the host.
