Scientific name: Sphagnum capillifolium (Ehrh.) Hedw. This moss, commonly called small red peat, ranges in color from brownish-green to pinkish-red. It grows in tight, carpet-like mounds. Its leaves lack a midrib, are shaped like tongues, and end in a bluntly pointed tip.
