About Sphaeralcea fulva Greene
Sphaeralcea fulva, scientifically named Sphaeralcea fulva Greene, is a perennial shrub that reaches 0.61–1.22 m (2–4 feet) in height. Greene originally described this species as growing erect and stout, with sparse branching, a suffrutescent growth form, and a covering of yellowish stellate pubescence. Its leaves are small, triangular-lanceolate in shape, thick and firm in texture, and have coarse teeth along their edges. The calyx is cleft below its middle into triangular, acute segments. The corolla is 1.9 cm (3⁄4 inch) long and light scarlet in color. On Isla Natividad, Sphaeralcea fulva has been observed to be common in canyons and canyon bottoms in the northern part of the island. This plant is also documented to grow in clay soil.
