About Spathosternum prasiniferum (Walker, 1871)

This species, Spathosternum prasiniferum (Walker, 1871), has the following characteristics. In fresh specimens, the body is generally greenish. A distinct broad black band runs from behind the eyes along the lateral carinae to the pronotum. The tegmina are light brown, with a pale longitudinal marking at the center. The wings are hyaline, with clouding towards the apex. The hind femur is greenish or rufotestaceous, and the hind tibia is green. The head is convex. The fastigium is rounded, with slightly raised lateral carinulae that are more prominent in males. Foveolae are not visible. A weak median carina extends across the vertex. The frontal ridge is narrow, with parallel sides, and is sulcated along its entire length. Antennae have 21 segments, and are shorter than the combined length of the head and pronotum. For the mesosoma, the pronotum is flat, with three carinae, and three sulci. Only the hind sulcus crosses the median carina. The prozona is almost the same length as the metazona. The posterior margin of the pronotum is angulated. The prosternal process is compressed antero-posteriorly, bilobed, inclined backwards, and has a narrower base. Mesosternal lobes are separated from each other, while metasternal lobes are contiguous. The hind tibia is long, barely dilated, and has 10 to 11 spines in addition to the apical spine. For the metasoma, the cerci are short and cylindrical. The supra-anal plate is blunt, with a longitudinal groove.
