About Spatalla parilis Knight

This species has the scientific name Spatalla parilis Knight. It is an upright shrub that grows to 1.5 m (4.9 ft) tall, and flowers from September through December. The entire plant dies after a fire, but its seeds survive. It is a bisexual species, and is pollinated by insects. Ripe seeds fall to the ground two months after flowering, and are then spread by ants. This plant is distributed in an area ranging from the Hottentots Holland Mountains to the Riviersonderend Mountains, and also grows at the top of the Langeberg at Garcia's Pass. It grows on cool southern slopes, at elevations between 300 and 1,550 m (980–5,090 ft).
