This species, Sparisoma aurofrenatum, can grow up to 28 centimeters in length. It is distributed throughout the Caribbean Sea, and across the western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from the waters of Bermuda, Florida, and the Bahamas down to Central America and Brazil. The species inhabits reefs at depths between 2 and 20 meters. Juvenile individuals of this species live among seagrass beds.
