About Sorubim lima (Bloch & Schneider, 1801)

This species, Sorubim lima (Bloch & Schneider, 1801), has the following morphological traits. Males of the species can reach a total length of 54.2 cm (21.3 in) and a weight of 1.5 kg (3 lb 5 oz). Their bodies have no scales, and are instead covered in bone plaques. An irregular gray stripe runs from the head to the caudal fin. The head is long and flat. The mouth is round, and the upper jaw is longer than the lower jaw. The eyes are positioned on the sides of the head. The front portion of the back is dark brown; below the side line, the body is yellowish then whitish. Its fins range in color from reddish to pink. In terms of habitat, Sorubim lima is a freshwater fish that lives in tropical waters with temperatures between 23–30 °C (73–86 °F).
