About Sonchus palustris L.

Sonchus palustris L., commonly called marsh sowthistle, is a perennial herbaceous plant. It is native to temperate areas of Europe, Russia, Central Asia, and Xinjiang in western China, and has become naturalized in a small number of sites in the Canadian province of Ontario. It grows in damp peaty or silty soils that are high in nitrogen. Its species epithet palustris is Latin for "of the marsh", which refers to this plant's common habitat. This species can reach up to 350 cm (almost 12 feet) in height. It produces a cluster of many flower heads; each head contains numerous yellow ray flowers and no disc flowers.
