Sonchus kirkii Hamlin, commonly called New Zealand sow thistle or shore puha, is an herb belonging to the Asteraceae family. This plant grows in coastal regions of New Zealand. It was a staple food in the traditional Māori diet, and often grew as a wild plant in market gardens. Market gardeners from New Zealand's Chinese community cultivated this puha for their own personal consumption.
